Latest work...

Ah, it does feel good to work on a bigger canvas again.  This one is 3' x 3.'  After looking at it for awhile, I decided to call it "Supplication."  I kinda like how the nose is a little crooked...

Work in Progress...

I've been working on some 20 x 20 canvases.  After the little 8 x 10's I was doing they feel really good, but not as liberating as my *BIG* canvases… ah well, variety is the spice of life.  I got several finished up this week, and I'm pleased with the results.  This first one is "Power":

Also like a couple I took into Fine Art at Baxter's in New Bern today - here's one of those, which I titled "Apres" - which means "after"in French:

Another 8 x 10

It really is a bit strange painting this small, but I'm starting to get the hang of it.  Its good practice for the "Painting-A-Day" project on my upcoming cross-country trip.  Here's another I finished this week.  I call it "Esperance"(hope).

Side Show Art is Live!

Great fun to be included as part of a talented group of artists in Side Show Art.  My section is "live" now - take a look!  This seemed like a perfect venue to offer some of my smaller "painting - a - day" paintings for sale easily online.  Will be fun to add paintings to it along the road while I make my cross country trip too.

Here's an 8" x 10" that I finished this morning.  I do not offer this small a size at my galleries so it is not in competition with them.  And part of the mission of Side Show Art is to promote each artist's galleries too, so its a win-win.

This little painting is called "Intense" :

Coming March 1st!

I'm so excited to have been invited to join a group of artists starting up Side Show Art - at
The idea is to create small "painting-a-day" paintings that are available for sale online.  I often get requests for smaller, more affordable artworks.  The truth is I love to paint BIG, but I realize not everyone has room for a 3 x 5 foot painting...  And now that I've been playing around with these, I'm finding they're a lot of fun!

I'll be going live on the site March 1st.  Take a look then : )

Here's one of the little 8" x 10" paintings that will be available.

Painting-A-Day Road Trip! Woo too!

I've been dreaming of a Cross-Country road trip for a long time.  Now that fuel prices are down and I have a window of open time, I'm gonna go for it.  I started making plans and talking with friends and family about where to go…

I was trying to figure out an art component to the trip and was toying with the idea of a "Painting-A-Day" which some artists do to get a series going.  It seemed a bit of a challenge to commit to that… then I contacted the director of the Craven County Arts Council and she nudged me to commit by agreeing to a show of the resulting paintings a year from the start of my trip - next May-June (2016) at the Bank of the Arts.  OK!  Now I'm committed and I'm all jazzed and full of ideas.

This is going to be a blast… Stay tuned…

But in the meantime, I need to focus and prepare for my upcoming show in Tallahassee Florida April 18-19, the Chain of Parks Art Festival!  That's going to be loads of fun.  Looking forward to it!

Yep.

Its been an incredible week… I need time to process it and report back to you, but in the meantime I will leave you with this:

"When you start working, everybody is in your studio—the past, your friends, enemies, the art world, and above all, your own ideas—all are there. But as you continue painting, they start leaving, one by one, and you are left completely alone. Then, if you're lucky, even you leave." -John Cage
